RText Box: December, 1998VOLUME IIText Box: Season’s Greetings from The Geffen FamilyText Box: “Praise be to the Lord, the G-d of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people.”Luke 1:40-68Seasons Greetings to all of you and I hope that you have a happy and healthy New Year.Well, another year and yes, another form letter, but it is one way to keep in touch if only for this “once a year” thing. It was another busy year. Tres who is now ten started public school last January and really likes it because all of the kids in the neighborhood go there. In addition it is significantly more challenging than the school he was in before and that is good for him. I told you about his piano lessons last year. Since then, he has participated in two festivals and got a 1+ and a blue ribbon in the first one and a 1 in the second. Practice, practice, practice. In the spring it was baseball, the first organized sport for Tres. He was the official bunter for the team. The coach even gave him a black eye. Before baseball started, Tres took a trip to Disneyland with his grandparents Momo and Papa (B.J. and Jim – Mel’s folks) while Arthur and I went to Cozumel for a week for some scuba diving. It was hot in California while we almost froze in Mexico. Thank you El Nino’.Then came summer. Tres was off to camp for 3 weeks this year and Arthur whisked me away to Cozumel again so I would not pine for the little guy. Did I say “little?” I mean big guy you should see him. We were in Cozumel for 10 days and managed 23 dives. YEA.Next stop, one week before school – it is off to Roatan – one of the Bay islands of Honduras. Yup, that’s right Honduras before Mitch. Tres went diving and excels at the sport. He can be our buddy anytime. He even had the experience of diving with dolphins in the open ocean and got scolded by one. Then, it was back to school. Tres is in the fifth grade, sings in the school choir; plays piano and UGH did football this year (Glad that season is over with). Mom is ready for basketball or maybe chess (no contact).I don’t know if I told you last year or not, but Arthur’s daughter, now my stepdaughter, is 23 and studying to be a Rabbi. She spent her first year in Israel, primarily in Jerusalem (boy I was worried whenever there was news about the terrorist attacks in Israel). Now she is in Cincinnati with a part time position as a student rabbi in Great Falls, Mt. She even has a column on their website Arthur is busy with Law, Arbitration and Scuba Lessons (he’s the instructor – I’m just the head schlepper).I’m substituting at Richland College and play DiveMaster when we have a class here at the house. Please whenever you come through the Big D, call us.
